It is located in the south border of San Telmo, in one of the few natural hills of the city, and it is one of the great parks from Buenos Aires. Some historians believe that that the park is currently located on the site of the first foundation of Buenos Aires in 1536.
The park has many sculptures (a roman wolf for example,) monuments (as the "Monumento a la Cordialidad Internacional", on Martín García Avenue,) an amphitheatre, a viewpoint, and a fountain. On Defensa Street, in the big house from the 19th Century where Lezama used to live, the National Historical Museum was established, in 1897. The Orthodox Russian Church is located in front of the park (315 Brasil Avenue.) It has a Muscovite style and blue domes.
